Epic Systems are now part of GoogleCloud and Amazon AWS.

Epic systems recently signed an infrastructure agreement with Google Cloud to enable hospital customers to run their Epic workloads.  Other clients have leveraged Epic in the cloud by working with Amazon.

Capturing about 33% of the U.S. hospital market share. Epic is currently one of the largest medical records software companies in the U.S.

Hackensack Meridian Health is moving to the Cloud.

As a result, the network of healthcare providers in New Jersey Hackensack Meridian Health announced in November 2022 that they have plans to move its Epic workloads to Google Cloud.

The health system aspires to accelerate digital transformations by moving to the Cloud. The 17-hospital system also has plans to leverage technology like analytics and A.I. to improve patient outcomes while benefiting from enhanced security.

When HITEKS helped Hackensack Meridian Health transition its medical practices from legacy EHRs to Epic, we never foresaw that the entire medical community would move to the cloud.

It’s a worthwhile endeavor that will allow for greater interoperability, data sharing, and value-added decision support from cloud vendors like HITEKS.

Words of the Executive Vice President and Chief Digital Information Officer

According to Kash Patel, executive vice president and chief digital information officer for Hackensack Meridian Health, implementing Epic Systems on Google makes it simple for their I.T. and developers. That allows them to focus on uncovering creative initiatives to improve patient care. For example, their A.I. avatar for natural language will already be on Google Cloud. Ready to ask questions, making their work faster and the information more accessible.

Hospital EHRs are data-rich; leveraging cloud technology will inject intelligence into clinical workflows. According to Aashima Gupta, global director of Google Cloud’s healthcare strategy and solutions.

Google Cloud and Hackensack are collaborating on a healthcare data engine accelerator. A project to improve equity, patient flow, and value-based care.

What does it mean for HITEKS Solutions?

Epic as part of Google Cloud is a significant achievement as they ceased that possibility about two years ago. However, that integration will give more intelligence to the workflow, which is beneficial for Hiteks as they are partners of Epic with their products CAPD360 Insight and Carepaths.

    Bottom Line

Epic systems  have recently signed off the agreement with Google Cloud to enable hospital customers to run their Epic workloads. Other Cloud vendors like Amazon AWS are also supporting Epic in the cloud.  Microsoft and Oracle are others who will inevitably get involved too.
